Mar Athanasius College Kothamangalam – Awareness Class and Debate Competition on Sexual Minorities

“Only by speaking out can we create lasting change”-DaShanne Stokes

The half day session on the Human Rights perspective of sexual minorities was organised by Readers Forum, MA College, in the auspicious presence of Prof Paul Mathew(HOD, Dept of English), Dr Anjaly Abraham, teaching staff and students. The awareness session handled by representative of Queerala followed by an open forum was quite welcoming, in terms of realizing how aware are the general students in campuses beyond the metro boundaries. Even though a change is happening, ignorance on non-binary nature of gender and misconceptions about homosexuality prevail. Let more academic institutions, in Kerala, come up with welcoming approaches towards inclusion of sexuality education there by creating non-discriminatory spaces in colleges for the LGBTIQ students.

Thanks to Paul Mathew Sir, Anjaly Madam and Alan Kuriakose, BA Lit Stundent, who could organize such a program in their college, run by Jacobite X’ian Management.
